Hurricane Helene hit the Florida Panhandle and the West Coast of Florida in late September of 2024. Hurricane Helene did a massive amount of damage from the Eastern Panhandle of Florida south to Tampa while working it's way Northward through Georgia and North Carolina.
Hurricane Helene caused massive damage with storm surges in Florida and massive flooding in Georgia and North Carolina leaving 4 million people without power. Hurricane Helene caused the deaths of over 140 people and county. Most of the deaths caused by massive flooding in North Carolina and Georgia. Residents were not expecting the massive floods. As a result, didn't leave the area in time for such massive devastation.
Many towns on the Gulf Coast were threatened to git hit with Hurricane Helene, but were spared damage. Towns such as St. George Island, St. Joe, Cape San Blas were several towns that experienced some flooding and light wind damage, but missed the bulk of the storm by less than 30-50 miles.
Questions about Destin, Panama City and the 30a continue to surface. Panama City, Destin, and 30a were not impacted by the storm. These areas experienced light winds and a few episodes of heavy rain.
Hurricanes are a result of hot waters combined with changing cold air temperatures. The Gulf of Mexico experienced some of the hottest temperatures in our nations history. September weather continues to stay warm. Threats of Hurricanes will continue until significant cold rain showers hit the warm waters.
VACATIONING ON 30A and DESTIN. Although there are potential threats for storms for this area, nothing is currently on the radar which would prevent guests from visiting the 30a, Destin and Panama City area.
Vacation rentals along 30a are still open and accepting rentals. In addition, local boat rental agencies, golf cart rental agencies still operating as usual.
