How Long Does It Take to Get To Crab Island?

That's a loaded question.  The speed of a boat on the water is determined by the following.

1. HP of the motor

2. Size of Boat

3. Weight on the Boat

4. Wind Speed

5. Style of Boat (pontoon, tritoon, deckboat, double decker or single decker.

For example; a pontoon boat will go an average of 10-15% slower than a tritoon because the tritoon sits up higher on the water and has less friction.

We offer a combination of the fastest, smoothest, and largest pontoon rental boats on the panhandle.  We also offer tritoon pontoon rentals instead of pontoons.  A trip to Crab Island from the 30a area will take anywhere from 35 minutes to 1 hour depending on the above conditions.

​

CANCELLATION POLICY-

Due to the overwhelming demand, 30a Pontoon Rental requires a 2 week (14 full day) notice for Sunday through Thursday rentals and 4 week notice for Fridays and Saturdays for a full refund.   Any cancellation after this date is non-refundable.  Yacht Charters require 4 week notification.  We do not cancel for accidents, illness or death.  We recommend renters insurance.

WEATHER POLICY

WEATHER - 30a Pontoon Rental /SRBPR strives to give our clients the best experience possible on the water. However, the panhandle is notorious for unexpected weather and things can change quickly and dramatically. In many cases weather can change in 30-60 minutes.   30a Pontoon Rental /SRBPR does our absolute best to inform you of developing weather patterns. However, it's challenging because the weather channels are not always accurate. The only time we cancel and give full refunds is if The United States Coast Guard issues a SMALL CRAFT advisory for the BAY.   30a Pontoon Rental /SRBPR does not cancel or offer refunds for rain showers that develop while on the water. If you choose to go out and it rains, you have accepted that risk.  if we see weather is dangerous or too much rain we will cancel 1 hour before your scheduled event.  30a Pontoon Rental and 30a Yacht Charter does not cancel do to cold weather.  If the weather turns cold, it's your choice to cancel, but you will not receive a refund.  We also DO NOT cancel the day before due to the rapidly changing weather patterns.   30a Pontoon may move you to a later or earlier time based on the radar.  In the event this happens, we don't offer discounts.   You assume that risk.

WIND- Wind can be a major factor with your pontoon rental.  Wind can change throughout the day.  If there is high wind in the morning we may postpone your trip.  However, we will not offer a refund if we can move the trip to a later time. 

​

SICKNESS OR DEATH-  We do not cancel and refund for sickness, death or injury.  This includes COVID-   We encourage travel insurance.  

​

RESCHEDULING- Our boats often book up weeks in advance.   There is usually not an opportunity to reschedule to another date.   Also, if you want to reschedule, and we are booked up that day, we lose the opportunity to rent the boat to someone else.   You can reschedule boats 72 hours or more in advance.   If we reschedule after, this we risk losing that spot for other clients.   The only time we reschedule after 72 hours is if weather is an issue.

RENTERS INSURANCE - There are times when the weather forecast is not accurate and winds change or rains increase unexpectedly.   In these circumstances, 30 Pontoon Rental does not refund any money.  This becomes the risk of the customer.   We encourage our renters to get RENTAL INSURANCE for these situations. 

​

Why a 150 hp Pontoon Rental Boat?-
A typical fishing boat, or ski boat is fun, but not enough space for a large party.  Pontoon rental boats allow up to 12 guest to enjoy a day together on the bay.  Most pontoon rental boats are 40-60 hp.  Our pontoon rental boats are 150 hp tritoons.  A tritoon is more buoyant than a pontoon and the extra horsepower will get you where you need to go on the bay 2-3 times faster than the typical pontoon rental.   A more buoyant pontoon rental boat also makes for a smoother and faster trip.

How Big is the Bay?

The bay in Santa Rosa Beach extends from the 331 Bridge to Crab Island in Destin.  While you are on our pontoon rental boats you can visit many of the beautiful bayous with exquisite homes in Santa Rosa Beach, Miramar Beach, Sandestin, and Destin.  

What is there to do?

While on our pontoon rental boats enjoy incredible restaurants right on the water including the famous Dewey Destin’s, and everyone’s favorite, LULU’s restaurant.  Lulu’s Restaurant is owned by Jimmy Buffett’s sister.  Lulu’s offers indoor and outdoor dining, a fun beach with activities for kids, and an outdoor bar right on the water.  All you have to do is pull your pontoon rental boat up, anchor securely and walk up to the beach. 

Can we shop somewhere on the bay?

Want to do some shopping while on our pontoon rental boats?  There are two places to shop and dine while on our pontoon rentals.  Just minutes from our pontoon rental dock is the Sandestin community and the popular Baytown Warf.  Baytown Warf has tons of great shopping, a zip line, a climbing wall, great restaurants, etc.   That’s not all.  While out on our pontoon rental boats you can visit the famous Destin Harbor.  Destin Harbor is packed with great restaurants, shopping, a climbing wall, art galleries, etc.   The Destin Harbor is only ¼ mile boat ride from Crab Island.   Restaurants include AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar,  Harry T’s, Dewey Destin’s, Marina Café, Boathouse Oyster Bar, Gilligan’s, etc.  
 

What is Crab Island? 
Most of our pontoon rental guest enjoy the fabulous and famous Crab Island.  Crab Island is a sand bar about 2-3 feet deep with crystal clear blue water.   Pontoon Rental boats drop anchor at Crab Island and play for the day.   While at Crab Island you can slide down our Double Decker Pontoon Rental boat with slide, float around on our 18 X 6 floating pad, or paddle around on our 11 foot yolo boards. 

Does the boat come equipped with anything?

Our luxury pontoon rental boats come equipped with a full tank of gas.  In addition, we have a variety of super fun add on’s that you can include with your pontoon rental experience.   Those pontoon rental add on’s include…
 

18 X 6 FLOATING PAD-
A favorite of our pontoon rental guests is our 18 X 6 floating pad.  These pads can hold up to 10 people comfortably.  
 

PADDLE BOARDS (YOLO BOARDS)-
Our 11 foot paddle boards are a great way to enjoy Crab Island.  You can paddle around on top of the water and see fish and wildlife underneath.  
 

TUBES or HOT DOGS-
Want to enjoy some fun?  Why not go tubing on our two person tubes or hot dogs. 
 

COOLERS-
Many of our pontoon rental guests don’t have a cooler.  We offer large coolers to keep your goods cold, or in some cases, keep your supplies dry. 

 

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO RENT A PONTOON BOAT?

The U.S. Coastguard Requires the driver to be born on or before January of 1988.   However, The US Coastguard allows individuals younger to rent/drive a boat if they have a boating certificate.   Even with a boating certificate we require a minimum of 30 years.  The only exceptions are those who hire a captain or designated master.

HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO RENT A CAR?

30a Rental Company requires all guests to be a minimum of 30 years old and with a valid US drivers license to rent a car.  Our insurance is very strict.   If caught allowing someone younger to drive, we charge a $1000 fine.

CAPTAIN SERVICES-
Don’t want to drive our pontoon rental boats.  We can provide you with a driver for an extra fee.  It's $20.00 an hour reservation deposit and $50.00 an hour captain fee paid directly to the Captain (Designated master)

CANCELLATION POLICY

30a Pontoon Rental offers a 14 day cancellation policy Sunday's through Thursday.  Due to the overwhelming demand for Friday and Saturday our cancellation policy is 4 weeks.

BACHELORETTE PARTY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. CAN WE HAVE MORE THAN 12 PEOPLE ON A PONTOON RENTAL BOAT?  

U.S. Coastguard only allows 12 people max on a boat.  This includes captain.   About 1/3rd of our bachelorette parties rent two boats.

2. CAN WE BRING FOOD AND ALCOHOL FOR OUR BACHELORETTE PARTY?

Yes, you can bring food and alcohol on the boat.  You can bring your own coolers or we offer80-100 quart cooler rentals.  

​

3. HOW BIG IS THE VAN TRANSPORTATION

The van allows for 13 guests and some gear.   

​

4. IS THERE ANY PLACE TO GO EAT WHILE ON THE PONTOON RENTAL BOAT?

There are a couple places guests go eat.  Lulu's in Destin is owned by Jimmy Buffet's sister LuLu.  It's a great atmosphere with good food.  You can pull the boat up and drop anchor out in the water.  Lulu's has a bar on the beach outside as well.

DEWEY DESTIN'S at Crab Island- Just 1/2 mile east of Crab Island on the water is the famous Dewey Destin's.  Fabulous food an incredible DIVE type atmosphere.   Must have captain or very experienced driver to pull up at their dock.

5. DO WE PAY FOR OUR PONTOON RENTAL EXPERIENCE WHEN WE BOOK OR WHEN WE COME? 

30a Rental Company charges the full amount up front.  This includes the boat(s), add on's, shuttle, etc.  HOWEVER, you pay the Captain the day of the event.  Most captain's charge before the rental.

6. WHAT IS CUSTOMARY TIPS FOR OUR PONTOON RENTAL EXPEREINCE?

Captain- 15% of cost of trip

Deckhands- 7-10% of cost of trip

Shuttle- 10-20% of cost shuttle

Please Note:  All captained boats also have a deckhand.  That deckhand prepares the boat, hauls the boat, cleans the boat at the end, etc.   Please make sure to separate the captain tip from the deckhand.

7. CAN WE DO LESS THAN a 6 HOUR PONTOON RENTAL EXPERIENCE?

Our pontoon rental boats are driven from storage and put in the water daily.  They get heavy deep cleanings, motors get flushed, etc.   If we rent for 4 hours we lose 6 hour rentals.  We can do 4 hours, but it's same price.  Plus, our captains require a minimum of 6 hours to do a day.

8. HOW SOON SHOULD WE BOOK OUR PONTOON RENTAL TRIP?

As soon as possible.  We book bachelorette parties up at least 2 months in advance.   However, there are times when we have available slots less than 2 months in advance.   To make sure you have a spot on our pontoon rental boats, we recommend booking your pontoon rental 3 months out.

9. WHAT IS THE PONTOON RENTAL CANCELLATION POLICY

There is a 72 hour cancellation policy.  If cancelled before 72 hours you will get a full refund.  If after, there is no refund.

​

10. WHAT IS THE RAIN POLICY?

30a Pontoon Rental strives to give our clients the best experience possible on the water.   However, the panhandle is notorious for unexpected weather and things can change quickly and dramatically.   30a Pontoon Rental does our absolute best to inform you of developing weather patterns.  However, it's challenging because the weather channels are not always accurate and again, patterns develop quickly.  If at the beginning of the day  30a Pontoon Rental sees most of your day will be inclement weather (storms with high winds, lightning and thunder) we will cancel your outing and you can choose between a refund or a credit or we can move you to a different day if another rental boat is available.     If there is significant inclement weather in your area (storms with high winds, lightning,  etc.) during your event and 30a Pontoon Rental calls you back to the dock canceling or cutting short your outing, you will be provided a partial credit.  30a Pontoon does not cancel or offer refunds for rain showers or high winds that develop while on the water.  If you choose to go out and a weather pattern develops (rain, wind, etc), you have accepted that risk and we will not offer a refund or a credit.

Our pontoon rental prices were set on January of 2022.   This includes a full tank of gas for free.  However, due to the current political climate and what's happening in Ukraine, it's expected gas prices to increase.   If gas prices go up, we will charge a gas surcharge at the end of the day based on the difference in gas prices that day as compared to the prices of gas on January of 2022.
